MassArt Kennedy Building Renovation and Addition

The renovation and addition to the six story concrete framed building involves a narrow two story addition to the existing building facing the Longwood Avenue. New floor opening with open stair is added to visually and functionally connecting the first floor and lower level library area. The mechanical system will be updated and miscellaneous small modifications or verifications of the existing structure are required. The original building was designed in 1961 thus it is not designed for seismic forces. The existing building is evaluated to meet Chapter 34 of the current Massachusetts Building Code.
