The addition to the student center consists of a one story entry vestibule and addition of a two story atrium. To achieve the best layout, part of the existing second floor was removed and new floor areas were added. The existing structure was reviewed to meet Chapter 34 of the current Massachusetts State Building Code. The new structure is framed in structural steel. The existing structure, where required, was reinforced with unilateral carbon fiber reinforcement. Part of the renovation included addition of a new elevator within the existing building. The structure is supported on mini piles.
